The Best Sedans on the Market Right Now

Thinking about trading in your vehicle and starting fresh? Don’t blame you – and believe it or not, now is a great time to do it! With so many dealerships reporting record low sales, you can get an incredible bargain.

Before you shell out thousands of dollars on your next sedan, though, let’s talk about what you should get. From compact to midsize, luxury, and more, here are the best sedans on the market right now. You might be surprised at some of our choices!

Best Compact Sedan of 2020

Looking for a smaller ride? Compact sedans have come a long way over the years. Just because you want a smaller form factor doesn’t mean you’re going to miss out on any features.

The 2020 Honda Insight takes the cake as the best sedan of the year. It’s a hybrid, which is amazing – expect to get up to 51 mpg in the city and 55 on the highway, for a combined average of about 52. That’s great. It’s priced between $24-30k, which might be a little bit pricey for those looking for a compact, but the interior feels luxurious and high end.

Honorable mentions include the 2020 Honda Civic, the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta, and the 2020 Kia Forte.

Best Midsized Sedan of 2020

Thinking about something with a little more room? Check out the 2020 Kia Optima. Kia made our mentions for compact, and they make a stellar car – with an MSRP of $24-32k, it averages 24 mpg in the city or 32 on the highway.

It’s spacious, has a great entertainment system (Kia calls it an infotainment system, but I refuse to use that word), and excellent safety features.

Honorable mentions include the 2020 Toyota Camry, which has great gas mileage, the 2020 Honda Accord, and the 2020 Mazda6.

Best Full-Sized Sedan of 2020

Oh, you want a lot of room. No judgment – sometimes we all want to roll with enough room for the kids and their junk, without an SUV or minivan. A full-sized sedan is where it’s at.

The 2020 Toyota Avalon ranks our top choice for a full-sized sedan. All reports of driving it on the road say it handles great and drives very smoothly. With a higher price tag of $35-42k, you get pretty solid gas mileage – 22 city, 32 highway – and a luxe, spacious interior that leaves little to be desired.

Honorable mentions includes the more affordable 2020 Chevrolet Impala, the 2020 Nissan Maxima, and the 2020 Chrysler 300.

Not Top, but Great Choices Overall

Slightly less concerned about size, and more interested in details? There are some great choices for you! Check out the 2020 Honda Civic Si, a sports-style compact with great handling and an impressive little motor. It comes in both a coupe and a sedan.

The Mazda 3 is available in hatchback or sedan, and feels more luxe and high-class than the others in its class. If you’re a fan of Hyundai, the 2020 Sonata is a car to look at. The interior is spacious and elegant, the touchscreen is nice, and handling is decent – not life-changing, but good enough. It’s a great choice if you want a luxury feel on more of a budget.
